The Number of Holes And The Number of Switches on The Wall Are Further Classified

The number of holes and the number of switches on the wall are important parameters during procurement and quotation, and they usually need to be confirmed simultaneously. Here, the “number of switches” refers to the number of control circuits, and the “number of holes” mainly refers to the number of functional modules on the panel (such as switches, sockets, network interfaces, etc.).

I. Classification by the number of switches

1. One Gang/One Way
It refers to a panel with only one switch button that can control one set of lamps. It is often used in simple lighting scenarios such as bedroom lights, bathroom lights and corridor lights.

2. Second opening (2 Gang / 2 Way
There are two independent switches on one panel, which can respectively control two lamps. For example, the main light in the living room + auxiliary light, the kitchen light + exhaust fan, etc.

3. Three Kai (3 Gang
Three switches are combined on one panel, suitable for locations where multiple lighting circuits need to be controlled simultaneously, such as living rooms, offices, and large rooms.

4. Four or more (4 Gang, 5 Gang)
It is mostly used in large Spaces such as hotels, conference rooms and villas to achieve centralized control of multiple lighting areas.

Ii. Classification by the number of holes (digits)

1 hole (1 position
One panel installs one functional module, for example:

Turn on the switch
Single socket
Network interface

It is applicable to ordinary rooms and small Spaces.

2 holes (2 positions
One panel installs two modules, for example:

One turn on + socket
Second switch
Socket +USB charging port

It is commonly found in residences and hotels.

3-hole (3-position
Install three modules, for example:

Three-way switch
Two openings + socket
Switch + TV + network interface

It is often used in living rooms and offices.

Four holes or more
It is suitable for commercial buildings, high-end residences and other locations that require the integration of multiple functions.

Iii. Common Combination Methods
One-switch single-control: One switch controls one light, which is the most common.
One on, two controls: Two positions control the same lamp, such as the staircase or the bedside in the bedroom.
Two on and one plug: two light controllers + one socket, commonly used in residential buildings.
Three on and Three control: Three buttons control three lights, suitable for living rooms or hotels.

When making foreign trade purchases, in addition to the number of holes and switches, it is also necessary to confirm: standards (British standard/European standard/Chinese standard), rated current (10A/16A), voltage (220-240V), color, material (PC/ glass/metal), and whether it has USB or intelligent functions. All of these will directly affect the price of the wall switch.
